چکیده

We present a concise summary of some of the fundamentals and of our work in the field of elastography over the past 12 years. This summary is not exhaustive, since several recent reviews of this area are available. We begin by presenting some relevant background material from the field of biomechanics, which forms the foundation of this work. We then proceed to discuss the basic principles and limitations that are involved in the production of strain images (elastograms) of biological tissues. Early results as well as current results from biological tissues in vitro and in vivo are shown. We conclude with some thoughts regarding the potential of elastography for medical diagnosis.  2001 Académie des sciences/Éditions scientifiques et médicales Elsevier SAS elastography / ultrasound / stress / strain / imaging / elasticity / shear modulus / Young’s modulus

IMAGERIE ACOUSTIQUE ET OPTIQUE DES MILIEUX BIOLOGIQUES OPTICAL AND ACOUSTICAL IMAGING OF BIOLOGICAL MEDIA 3D acousto-optic modulated-speckle imaging in biological tissues

A parallel, 64K-channel implementation of the acousto-optic method of imaging optical contrasts buried in organs is presented. This implementation also associates this method with echography in a single apparatus. This allows us to prove that sensitivity to purely optical contrast is achieved. Moreover, this enables any potential user to distinguish easily optical contrast, acoustic contrast, a...

IMAGERIE ACOUSTIQUE ET OPTIQUE DES MILIEUX BIOLOGIQUES OPTICAL AND ACOUSTICAL IMAGING OF BIOLOGICAL MEDIA Optical coherence tomography

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a new technology for performing high-resolution cross sectional imaging. OCT is analogous to ultrasound imaging, except that it uses light instead of sound. OCT can provide cross sectional images of tissue structure on the micron scale in situ and in real time. OCT functions as a type of optical biopsy and is a powerful imaging technology for medical diagno...

IMAGERIE ACOUSTIQUE ET OPTIQUE DES MILIEUX BIOLOGIQUES OPTICAL AND ACOUSTICAL IMAGING OF BIOLOGICAL MEDIA Tissue harmonic ultrasonic imaging

Harmonic imaging was originally developed for microbubble contrast agents in the early 90s under the assumption that tissue is linear and all harmonic echoes are generated by the bubbles. In fact, tissue, like bubbles, is a nonlinear medium. Whereas the harmonic echoes from bubbles have their origins in nonlinear scattering, those from tissue are a result of nonlinear propagation. The clinical ...

Adapting the Lagrangian speckle model estimator for endovascular elastography: theory and validation with simulated radio-frequency data.

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is known to be the reference tool for preoperative vessel lesion assessments and for endovascular therapy planning. Nevertheless, IVUS echograms only provide subjective information about vessel wall lesions. Since changes in the vascular tissue stiffness are characteristic of vessel pathologies, catheter-based endovascular ultrasound elastography (EVE) has been p...

Impacts of underwater turbulence on acoustical and optical signals and their linkage.

Acoustical and optical signal transmission underwater is of vital interest for both civilian and military applications. The range and signal to noise during the transmission, as a function of system and water optical properties, in terms of absorption and scattering, determines the effectiveness of deployed electro-optical (EO) technology. The impacts from turbulence have been demonstrated to a...
